How Do They Protect My Home During a Roofing Project?

When you need a roofing project done, it can feel disruptive to your day-to-day life and home. At The Roof Doctors, we strive to protect your home during the project and work efficiently so that disruptions from our work are minimal.

From minor repairs to full replacements we have systems in place to prevent further damage from occurring in your home as we work to restore your roof.

Weatherproofing

How Do They Protect My Home from Damage During a Roofing Project? If you need an extensive roof replacement, perhaps after water damage has rotted the subroof, it can mean living for several days without a complete roof as we work to remove, replace, and shingle your new roof.

During this time, we make sure you are weatherproofed and protected from any unexpected wind, rain, or snowstorms. Tarping a roof is more than just throwing a cover over the project. We use the correct weight of the tarp to withstand the elements. We also attach boards around the edges to create a tight barrier against air and water. It’s never ideal to leave a roof open to your home, but when required we make sure you will stay warm and dry beneath it.

Top Floor

If your first thought was “What a mess” when you considered a roofing project, you’re not wrong. Both tearing off and replacing a roof comes with all the dust and debris of any construction project. Of course, it’s a bit different when you’re trying to live underneath the said project.

To protect your top floor, secure plastic draping goes beneath the roof to catch any debris that falls off during the process. It’s important to prevent this kind of dust from entering your home as it could contain dangerous particles like fiberglass from insulation or mold from water-damaged ceilings.  It’s also very difficult to clean up.

Landscaping

The landscaping you have around your house is valuable and delicate. As we place ladders, scaffolding, and dumpsters for the roofing project, we take pains to avoid damage to this landscaping.

To prevent debris from falling into plantings around the base of your foundation we can affix sheeting or tarps from the roof edge down to the ground. This will send debris falling to the yard, away from any plantings. This technique does, however, block light from your windows so we’re happy to work with you to find a solution that protects your landscaping and does not inconvenience your day-to-day life in the home.

The Yard

It is our intention to leave your yard exactly as we found it. For this reason, we prefer to keep all heavy equipment off the grass when possible. From lifts to ladders, we work to find a base where no marks are left behind.

We also dedicate time to clean-up in the yard to remove any debris that falls or slides into the grass during the project. We know how important it is to find every last nail or wood splinter, especially in yards where pets or children play.
